What you need to consider about LED lights for warehouse lighting?

There are some important factors that cannot be ignored though efficient LED light  are changing the way we see elevated lighting in warehouses and  shop or factory. This seemingly difficult task, in fact, it becomes a handy project ,as long as know the most basic choice of which type of lighting to use.

Whether it's a new warehouse lighting project or a replacement project, you must know these

1. What type of lights should be used, UFO or Linear high bay lighting?
Light fixtures for warehouse lighting are available in two shapes, usually need identification and selection. UFO high bays light fixtures are used to replace traditional metal halide(HM) or high-pressure sodium(HPS) lamps, for more wider and higher ceiling warehouse. Most of them have IP65 rated to combat harsh environments. To replace fluorescent lights, T5HO or T8 highbays, led linear high bay fixture was designed with cast rectangular beams. They will effectively distribute light in areas such as aisles and long workbenches which below 35 feet and not need waterproof.

2. How much light efficacy for warehouse need?
If your warehouse has a skylight, you can use lamps with lower light efficacy, generally, 130lm / w is enough. However, if a warehouse with a skylight only needs to open a part of the luminaire on a sunny day. It can be designed to connect the luminaire to multiple switches and open any number as needed. Since the color of the ceiling and walls affects the lighting efficiency, the light color will have higher reflectance than the dark one. If you have lighter colored ceilings and walls, this means you can also use the low light efficacy fixture.

3. How to avert glare?
LEDs do not work like traditional HID sources, and the intensity of each chip can be a serious problem. In particular, operators have to look up the surface of the luminaire. Just as forklift drivers need to stack products on higher shelves, they will feel glare. Therefore, it is especially important to balance the efficacy and visual comfort of the lamps. How to balance? First of all, you should lay out the interval of the lamps. If the distance is too close, the light will overlap, and too far will produce dark spots. Unreasonable lighting layout will make the operator on the head feel dizzy, so please remember to think for the operator. Alternatively, the lights can be equipped with a pc reflector to alleviate its lightness.

4. What CCT to create higher productivity?
The choice of color temperature does not seem important to lighting warehouse, but in fact, it has an impact on product visibility and employee motivation. The color temperature between 4000K and 5000K is the best choice for the warehouses. Cool white can help ensure the color of the goods, reduce visual fatigue and increase productivity. For a warm light like a color temperature of 3000K, what would it be like when used in a warehouse? The light from the luminaire looks orange, which undoubtedly changes the color of the product itself and makes the employee lazy.

5. Which light distribution type will be more suitable?
It is not necessarily full of shelves in the warehouse. For open areas and wide inter-shelf corridors, we would recommend a wide beam angle of 90° and 120°. For narrower areas and elongated shelf corridors, choose a narrow beam angle of 60° or long beam angle 120°(linear high bay). This long, narrow light pattern ensures that all light is not lost by the top of the shelf.

6. Which lights do not flicker?
Some conventional light sources, such as fluorescent lamps, have a higher CRI. But because these technologies are AC powered, they can flicker, which can cause eye strain and headaches. The LED driver converts AC to DC, which means no flicker will occur.

7. Optional: Intelligent Control
If you think that high bay led fixtures are always lighting to waste energy costs, perhaps adding microwave sensor or daylight sensor is a good way to save. What is a microwave/motion sensor? This sensor automatically monitors whether someone in the warehouse is moving to turn the light fixtures on or off. What is a daylight sensor? It is suitable for areas where the lamp does not need to turn on every time you enter. For example, your warehouse has a skylight, and when the weather is fine, the skylight can bring you some lighting. You can choose the daylight sensor if you don't want to turn on the luminaire under such circumstances. And you can choose Lightdot 150W UFO Smart LED High Bay Light with Motion Sensor
